Landmines, Cluster bombs and Explosive Remnants of War
A victim-activated weapon is any weapon that explodes or has the potential to explode by the presence or proximity of a person. They include anti-personnel landmines and other weapons which function like anti-personnel mines including cluster bombs, anti-vehicle/anti-tank mines with anti-personnel effect and explosive remnants of war (ERW).
Victim-activated weapons killed or maimed more than 7,000 people in 2017. These weapons are a constant threat daily and a haunting reality for millions of innocent children, women, and men as they walk through their communities and through life.
